No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em

No limit Texas Hold ‘Em has become one of the most played and most watched types of poker in the world.

This is mainly thanks to television coverage from ESPN, especially their revolutionary camera angles that allow you to know what two hole cards each player has.

Texas holdem poker is all the rage now days.

From watching different celebrity contests to the international competitions like the World Series of Poker, no limit Texas hold ‘em is a fun and exciting game of poker.

This game is generally played with two to ten people, although sometimes, it can be played with more. The basic premise is the same as with all games of poker and that is to win hands or pots from each round of betting. The pots represent the total amount of money that each player contributes to the round of betting. The ante is the initial money placed in the pot that each player must contribute at the opening start of play.

Texas hold ‘em is considered a closed poker game because the cards that each player receives in the first round of play are placed face down. Only in the showdown, or final play of the game, are these cards revealed. After getting their first two cards this way, the players are now in the betting stage of the game and this continues until all players are given the option to match, raise or fold.

So basically they put in the same amount as the other players (call), put in more (raise) or stop playing altogether for that round (fold). Once the active players are determined, the dealer then deals what is called a flop or three community cards that can be used by all participants to enhance their hand.

If only one player remains after three betting rounds they are the winner. If two or more remain then they go to the final showdown and their hold cards are revealed. The winner is determined by who has the best hand with all the community cards included in the match up. This is the basic set up of Texas hold ‘em.

What makes no limit Texas hold ‘em different from limit games is very simple: there is no limit in the amount that can be raised by the players in each round of play. So a player that wishes to throw in his total stake at one time is allowed to do so. This is what is referred to as “all in”.
